“?? !!” (Pregunta / Respuesta) encierra una cornucopia club afro que brota desde la selva urbana porteña, bases crudas, que demandan pista, y líneas melódicas mínimas y oscuras, un tributo latino al espectro de ritmos africanos que hace años domina la música club más osada. Aunque no es la primera vez que Medix Cielx (Sky Parnes, FKA Sückie) y Jaijiu (Elías Musiak) –ambos asociados al sello argentino Agva– se encuentran colaborando, “?? !!” es un producto del aislamiento que tematiza y encarna en su realización los alcances de la comunicación virtual. El proceso de producción estuvo marcado por el intercambio de ideas musicales en un ida y vuelta de propuestas y elaboraciones sobre estas. Tratándose de tracks instrumentales percusivos, se pone en juego algo de la dinámica dialéctica que se da de modo sincrónico en los ensambles de percusión, pero aquí sobre un molde digital. La unión colaborativa detrás de “?? !!” refuerza el carácter híbrido y ecléctico de las ideas rítmicas que van progresivamente apareciendo: batida teñida de guaracha y funk carioca, bass e incluso candombe, que aflora en el último tramo de Pregunta. Ambos tracks están basados en una exploración lúdica del espacio rítmico, sus patrones complejos y variaciones tímbricas y de EQ que evocan productores como DJ Firmeza y Lechuga Zafiro. El tono de los tracks acompaña el juego dialéctico que plasman, en el carácter suspendido e inquisitivo de Pregunta y en el más directo y urgente de Respuesta.

“?? !!” (Pregunta / Respuesta is Spanish for Question / Answer or, more aptly, Call / Response) encloses an afro club cornucopia sprouting out of Buenos Aires urban jungle, raw, dancefloor-ready beats, and simple, dark melodic lines: A latinx tribute to the array of African rhythms that for years now have taken centre stage in leftfield club music. Although it’s not the first time Medix Cielx (Sky Parnes, FKA Sückie) and Jaijiu (Elías Musiak) –both part of Argentinian label, Agva– join forces, “?? !!” is a product of confinement that addresses and embodies in its execution the scope of online communication. The production process was marked by the exchange of musical ideas in a two-way fashion of proposal and subsequent elaboration. Being percussive instrumental tracks, they showcase some of the dialectic dynamics which can be found synchronically in percussive ensembles, but here laid out on a digital blueprint. The collaborative union behind “?? !!” reinforces the hybrid and eclectic character of the rhythmic ideas that progressively emerge. Guaracha and funk carioca stained batida, bass, and even candombe surfacing on the last part of Pregunta. Both tracks are based on the playful exploration of rhythm, their complex patterns, and tone and EQ variations reminiscent of producers such as DJ Firmeza and Lechuga Zafiro. The tracks’ pace complements the dialectic game they capture, in the suspended and inquisitive character of Pregunta, and in the more direct and urgent Respuesta.
